Working with Kate

Kate works on a wide range of creative communication projects, for diifferent industry sectors and applications – and has been doing so for over 20 years.  "She is very good at understanding and challenging the brief, teasing out from me and my clients critical additional information about what we are seeking to achieve."

Kate's "raison d'etre" is creating low-context creative communications that are accessible to all – no jargon, no assumptions of knowledge, clear information via text and images.

Project Briefing Form: a good place to start!

Really nice things clients have said about Kate's creativity, pragmatism, professionalism and outlook...

Development and charity communications: Kate's re-brand of the appeal creating a compelling 'lifetime' campaign to attract high worth individuals, corporate and trust giving alongside a public facing exchange brand. Using her design skills and knowledge of on and off-line media Kate was able to communicate a clear and resonating campaign. Building existing and developing new relationships with diverse stakeholders, alongside the stewardship of donors and supporters, Kate was able to build up a network of financial supports. Kate was also responsible for the final year event organisation which she did cost effectively including, concert, markets, comedy and our gala event. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kate for development and branding work. Mike Coe, CEO, Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust

Charity communications: Thank you so much for all you did, you really did go above and beyond the call of duty, I really appreciate it. I apologise for any added stress caused by the unavoidable delays in getting work to you. Lorena Alvarez, Neighbourhood Facilitator, Up Our Street, Easton and Lawrence Hill Community Management

Community engagement: Kate’s a ‘people person’ who easily made connections with donors and supporters and was an excellent ambassador for the Trust. Her design and writing raised the level of our communications significantly. Many guests at the first gala event at Arnos Vale that we co-organised commented on the professional event branding and friendly ambience which I think helped convince them of the importance of our fundraising efforts. Kate understands the reciprocal nature of fundraising and approached all potential supporters as a new friend. She happily put in extra hours to ensure that events ran smoothly and that participants felt welcomed. Lindsay Telling, Trustee, Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust

Marketing: Kate has been a fantastic addition to the team – she has worked on all aspects of our marketing and has been honest and forthright throughout. Iain Stewart, ToyGuard (UK) Ltd.

Community exhibition design and curation, and community engagement: Swindon Museum & Art Gallery undertook a community Exhibition ‘Entertaining Swindon’ with Kate Parsons as the Curator/Project Manager. Kate used her extensive graphic design skills to give the exhibition a brand and colour scheme, with matching interpretation/text panels. The role also included a significant amount of public engagement with the people of Swindon who helped to form the content of the exhibition. Kate showed considerably strong communication skills in this public engagement role, quickly making links to exploit local knowledge, building goodwill to rally support for the project and keep the Swindon Museum & Art Gallery regularly informed of progress. Curating skills from Kate saw her develop a theme for the exhibition from early research, and then build the pieces of the exhibitions content from knowing what people were willing to loan for display. The project also required extensive project management skills with regard to time, budget, and communication (including residents loaning objects, Swindon Borough Council staff and printers). Kate has been able to work flexibly, with a strong work ethic, fast problem-solving skills and a high level of professionalism. Kate Parsons would be an excellent choice for any project that includes graphic design, community public engagement, project management, and/or curating a show, exhibition, or other events. Jon Ratcliffe, Swindon Museum & Art Gallery

Strategy and concepts: I have worked with Kate on several projects over the years and her strategic thinking and creative execution are second to none. She exceeds expectations. Maria Hedge, Head of RRD Creative

Charity communications: Kate's ability to take a project brief and turn it into an outstanding piece of work really does make big projects easier. Her expertise in design, print and creative writing are exemplary – she is patient, flexible, and always has a solution to a problem.  She is a joy to work with, I cannot recommend Kate highly enough." Becki McKinlay, Head of Individual Giving, University of Oxford Development Office.

Design: If you want to cut through the design hype and focus on getting your message to market in a modern, innovative and creative way then don't hesitate to hire Kate. She brings professionalism, enthusiasm and a results oriented approach to a subjective thing (Brand, Design, Marketing approach). What's impressive is her ability to treat each assignment separately, personally and deliver an individual, tailored solution without using formulaic templates or design approaches. Andrew Bagguley, Director, Project Mobile Ltd.

High risk industry consultancy: Having identified the disconnect between trackside staff literacy levels and the safety-critical information Network Rail supplied for each job, I engaged Kate as a Visual Communication Consultant as her intelligent approach and work with low-literacy groups fitted the brief. Her work on the initial successful pilot in the Wessex Region helped to accelerate the programme to national level. Kate proved very able to work with frontline staff, management and risk management consultants to translate findings into a logical flow of clearly presented, pertinent information. She championed the principles of clarity throughout the many stages of the programme's development. Kate's business contacts, ability to sub-contract, manage time and budget enabled trials of the new materials to move easily through iterations. She documented progress and feedback to provide directive reports and image files as the production of Control of Work materials was handed over to our risk management software developers. Kate's long-term involvement provided consistency of direction for communicating safety-critical information within the multi-million pound programme that will bring about significant change in the rail industry. Stuart Browning,Programme Manager Control of Work, Network Rail

Charity communications: I have very much enjoyed working with Kate – she is one of those unique people who is able to give equal attention both to the big picture (thinking about how the communication will come across to its intended audience) and the fine detail. As a result, working with her is challenging, rewarding and fun. Her intelligent approach helps you as the client to be confident that you are getting a quality product. Tany Alexander, Senior Campaign Executive, University of Oxford Development Office

Design communication: Kate is my designer of choice. She works on projects for the majority of my clients. I have been commissioning design work for twenty years, on behalf of wide variety of clients, and Kate consistently delivers high quality work, on time and within budget. I particularly appreciate Kate’s ability to stay contemporary and her record of staying in touch with new innovations. Her work has impact and is retained well by a wide variety of audiences. She is very good at understanding and challenging the design brief, teasing out from me and my clients critical additional information about what we are seeking to achieve. On occasions, her ability to explain and offer insight into design purpose has been extremely helpful. Her input when she acts at a more strategic and directional level, has proved very valuable. Karen Gardner, Principal, Carpe Diem Corporate Communications

Charity communications: I had the good fortune to work with Kate Parsons as her line manager at the University of Oxford, and subsequently on a freelance basis on several occasions. Her work is always first-rate – well-crafted, engaging and effective. She has a quick and thorough grasp of the needs of a project, and fulfils the brief with timely competence and a creative flair that makes it more compelling. I would highly recommend her for any job requiring design, writing and editing at the highest level of excellence. Chris Floyd, Senior Proposals Officer, University of Oxford Development Office
